GambleAware parents campaign

Practical tips for parents on how they can reduce their child’s risk of gambling harm.

Campaign overview

GambleAware parents campaign picThe GambleAware parents campaign drives awareness of the three main factors which influence young people in relation to gambling: parental attitudes, exposure to simulated gambling in video games and gambling advertising.

It gives parents and carers practical tips to reduce their child’s risk of harm now and in future.

Why we need a campaign

Young people are more exposed to gambling than ever before - through advertising, sport, social media and video games. It’s important that parents understand the influence they have on their children’s gambling now and in future.

Parents can take simple steps to reduce their child’s risk of gambling harm by:

monitoring and setting rules around online screen time
not gambling in front of their kids
talking to their children about the impacts of gambling.

While parents and carers are the biggest influence on their children’s gambling attitudes and behaviours, other factors such as gambling advertising and exposure to gambling in video games also influence young people’s ideas and intentions about gambling.
